In humans, the brain, , is the control center of the central nervous system, responsible for thought. Our brain brain is located in the head, protected by the skull and close to the primary sensory apparatus of vision, hearing, equilibrioception, taste and olfaction. The human brain contains more than 100 billion neurons, each linked to as many as 10,000 others
Understanding the relationship between the brain and the mind — mind-body problem is one of the central issues in the history of philosophy — it is a challenging problem both philosophically and scientifically. There are three major philosophical schools of thought concerning the answer: dualism, materialism, and idealism. Dualism holds that the mind exists independently of the brain; materialism holds that mental phenomena are identical to neuronal phenomena; and idealism holds that only mental phenomena exist.
The most straightforward scientific evidence that there is a strong relationship between the physical brain matter and the mind is the impact physical alterations to the brain have on the mind, such as with traumatic brain injury and psychoactive drug use.
In addition to the philosophical questions, the relationship between mind and brain involves a number of scientific questions, including understanding the relationship between mental activity and brain activity, the exact mechanisms by which drugs influence cognition, and the neural correlates of consciousness.
Through most of history many philosophers found it inconceivable that cognition could be implemented by a physical substance such as brain tissue . Philosophers such as Patricia Churchland posit that the drug-mind interaction is indicative of an intimate connection between the brain and the mind, not that the two are the same entity. Descartes, who thought extensively about mind-brain relationships, found it possible to explain reflexes and other simple behaviors in mechanistic terms, although he did not believe that complex thought, and language in particular, could be explained by reference to the physical brain alone.
MENTAL CREED
1. "We believe mental wellness and the optimal use of our minds, mental powers and human potential begins with the fear, love, trust and obedience of God and His Law/Word."
(Proverbs 1:7; Psalm 119:98; Proverbs 2:6; Proverbs 9:9)
2. "Just as we are what we eat physically we are also what we ingest mentally. Garbage in-Garbage out. We are the sum total of our thoughts."
(Proverbs 23:7; Proverbs 22:6; Philippians 4:8)
3. "We believe that to tap our true mental and human potential and to be at our best we must have a definite major purpose in life. We believe that man's purpose is not to live by bread alone (the physical) but by ever Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God."
(Deuteronomy 8:3; Matthew 4:4; John 6:63; Micah 6:8)
4. "Most anxiety, depression, negative mindset and so called mental disease is the result of the heart being disconnected from our Creator; the result of sin in our lives."
(Isaiah 59:2; Matthew 15:18)
5. "We believe that most of what we call modern day psychology is not a science but a substitute religion designed to replace God's inerrant Word with the ever shifting precepts of men. Psychiatry and brain drugging has its root not in medical science but ancient Egyptian sorcery. God's people are commanded to come out of these false systems of this world."
(Revelation 18:4; Revelation 21:8; 1 Timothy 6:20; Romans 1:28)
6. "The most powerful medicine that God has given us is our mind. We believe both sickness and high level wellness begins in the mind. Our minds have the potential to be great healers or great slayer. Negative thoughts create and exacerbate disease, stymie the immune system and prematurely kill. Positive thoughts stimulate a powerful and indestructible immune system and heal and prevent disease more effectively than any medicine known to man."
(Proverbs 14:30; Proverbs 17:22; Proverbs 18:14; Proverbs 25:19; James 1:6)
7. "There is a spiritual component to most of our diseases. Many of our diseases can be traced to sin and lack of forgiveness; holding onto spiritual garbage of the past. We believe forgiveness is essential to our physical, mental and spiritual health."
(Matthew 6:15; Matthew 18:21; Romans 12:8; Colossians 3:13; Psalm 51)
8. "Unlike the heathen who practice emptying their minds into a void of nothingness, we believe that godly meditation requires that we entertain, entrance and inculcate God's Word into our mind. We also believe that positive and encouraging meditations and suggestions congruent with God's Word while in a relaxed, undisturbed, and unfocused state not only Is able to reduce much of the stress, tension and anxiety of living in this world, but also encourages, stimulates and galvanizes our own body's God given healing and restoration systems."
(Psalm 1:2; Joshua 1:8; 1 Timothy 4:15; Psalm 104:34; Proverbs 15:4; Proverbs 15:26; Proverbs 16:24)
9. "We believe that our God given minds are highly sophisticated servomechanisms that require definite goals to function properly. Where there are no goals or vision the people perish. We also believe that daily prayer, Bible study and meditation are essential for our physical, mental and spiritual health."
(Proverbs 16:9; Proverbs 29:18; Hosea 4:14; 2 Timothy 2:15; Psalm 1:2; James 5:16; 1 Thessalonians 5:17)
10. "We believe that our God given calling is not to be raptured or to escape from the world but to transform the world by conversion and to take dominion of every arena of life under our King Jesus Christ, guided by His Holy Spirit, and grounded in His Word/Law. We are called to overcome the world not escape from it."
(Revelation 3:21; 1 John 5:4; Genesis 1:26; Matthew 28:19; Psalm 119:105; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Revelation 22:14)
